10_Things_We_Love_about_Technology_CareersYou might have a passion for technology. You might love creating new programs or fixing networks. You might like playing with all of the cool new gadgets and gismos. But, then again, you might not. You might actually be passionate about painting or acting but wise enough to understand that tech is a great career choice.

The fact is technology careers are great for many, many reasons. Here are just the top ten.

1. Innovation

Technology is the epitome of innovation. From one day to the next, it can be vastly different. Revolutionary new products, software, and systems are constantly being launched into the market. Technology is always moving forward and there’s some anticipation and excitement that comes with waiting for what new innovation will be born in the tech world—especially when you get to be a part of it, right in the middle of the action.

2. Compensation

Technology careers can pay extremely well, especially when you have the right education to back up your skills. Even entry-level jobs will pay you well over the national average, which means you can secure your financial future early on in your career.

3. The Perks

Technology careers also offer some cool perks, like flexible hours and telecommuting and access to the latest gadgets and equipment, on top of the regular health coverage, RSP, and other benefits. Plus, if you work for one of the biggest tech companies, like Google, you might get access to awesome perks like a masseuse, bocce courts, a roller hockey rink, and a bowling alley.

4. The Challenge

Because tech is ever changing, you’ll always be challenged at work. You might handle a wide variety of different responsibilities, and new problems will always come up that you’ll have to figure out, while you learn new skills along the way. The more challenging the job is, the fewer opportunities you’ll have to become bored and unfulfilled.

5. Future Growth

Technology isn’t going away anytime soon. In fact, it’s rapidly growing, which means you have huge opportunities for future growth if you choose a career in tech. The likelihood of being laid off or having difficulty finding work in information technology is slim compared to other job sectors.

6. Hot Demand

IT jobs are in hot demand if you have the right skills, experience, and education. Virtually all business owners use technology to run their companies, from the smallest start-up to the largest conglomerate. And all of these companies need IT experts to ensure that their networks and systems are running effectively.

7. Varied Choices

Want to work in health care? For the government? In the private sector? Have your pick, because technology careers are offered in every industry, because, as we mentioned above, all companies use information technologies. You’ll be able to choose from a long list of industries.

8. Education

You don’t need to go to post-secondary to get a masters or doctorate to get a job in tech. In fact, in most cases, you don’t even need to go to school for three or four years. You can spend considerably less time and money on schooling when you choose to work in tech. Just spend two years in college or get some certificates.

9. Fun

Because tech is always changing—because it’s so innovative and challenging—you’ll always have fun. No day is going to feel like work if you have a knack for tech and enjoy working with numbers and computers. You can’t really put a price on fun.

10. You Don’t Have to Be a Techie

If tech just isn’t your thing, you can still absolutely find a career in IT that you’ll love. Some tech stuff, like HTML, is relatively easy to learn. You don’t have to be an expert coder to be successful in the field, which is especially true if you choose to work in IT marketing, user experience design (UX), or graphic design.
